Carol Hiles – University of Glamorgan

I am a Senior Lecturer on the BA Art Practice course and Award Leader for MA Arts and Health at the University of Glamorgan. My specialism within BA Art Practice is 2D. Whilst much of my teaching is focused in that area I also work with students who may be using a range of media in their practice.

The MA Arts and Health award draws upon my experience of professional practice within the field of arts and health. I have completed a wide variety of creative work within healthcare settings and community contexts including engagements as Artist in Residence for Gwent Healthcare and Cwm Taf NHS Trusts.

My research has two distinct strands. I pursue a personal practice in painting and exhibit regularly; examples of my work are held in collection of the Contemporary Arts Society for Wales and Cardiff County Council.  I am a member of 56 Group Wales and Butetown Artists.

My research within arts and health is focused on the dialogue between individual creative practice and practice located within healthcare contexts

I am committed to advocacy for research and development in arts and health, public and participatory art and I am currently a board member of Rhondda Cynon Taff Community Arts, Valley and Vale Community Arts and Safle, the leading public art organisation in Wales.
