Arts and Crafts

Arts and Crafts is a term that covers a range of creative activities that we offer using a mix of materials and creating many arts works including homemade gifts, home decorations, community exhibitions, textile pieces, Forest Arts work using natural materials, and much more. We are developing this popular area of work because it is accessible, uses all kinds of materials to make creative art works, and fuses new creative approaches with traditional rural and woodland crafts skills which many people are keen to re-discover.

April 13th, 2011 Our 30th Anniversary Valley and Vale Community Arts is 30! We are proud to announce that this month we celebrate our 30th Anniversary! We will be celebrating through a host of exciting and creative projects, events and activities during our 30th year, from April 2010 to April 2011, so bookmark our website to keep up with our celebrations!
November 29th, 2010 Alex Bowen at Aberthaw Energy on the Horizon This exciting new venture is bringing together RWEnPower in The Vale of Glamorgan and Valley and Vale Community Arts to develop a new and exciting Business and Arts partnership.
September 22nd, 2010 Betws Mural 2010 Betws Mural We are nearing completion of a large mosaic mural that has been created by Visual Arts Worker Nick Clements and children from Bettws Primary School to brighten up the front of Bettws Life Centre in the village where we are based.
August 21st, 2010 Double Take Exhibition ‘Double Take’ Wales/Ethiopia Exhibition Launch A new Valley and Vale Community Arts photography exhibition launch takes place at The Pierhead, National Assembly building, Cardiff Bay, on 1st September at 12.30pm, and will be exhibited there for 5 weeks.
August 19th, 2010 Summer Arts Project ‘The Magic Forest’ Summer Arts Project In The Magic Forest project in August children from Betws and the Garw Valley took part in lots of activities including making music, paper-making, designing t-shirts, dance and drama workshops, building an outdoor clay pizza oven with Cwm Tawell.
July 8th, 2010 Theatre of the Oppressed Workshop, Darwin 2010 Alyson’s Darwin Adventure part 4 "It's week two of my Theatre of the Oppressed workshops, and it went really well. The project was initially set up (although now open to anyone) as community theatre training for people who work with the Long Grass, who are homeless people, mostly indigenous, that live in Darwin."
July 7th, 2010 Forest Arts 2010 The Living Classroom Today we had the last session of our Betws Primary School Forest Arts project. It was sad to feel that it would be the last time we would be working with that group. We looked at the bench we had made, had a small campfire and sang songs.
June 29th, 2010 Betws Primary School love Forest Arts If You Go Down to the Woods… Today at Forest Arts we had another great session. We've been working with the nurture group at Betws Primary for 15 sessions over the past two terms. One of the main aims of this project is to work long term, with really good child adult ratios and initiate real child-centred creative learning.
June 28th, 2010 Forest Arts Workshop 2010 Forest Arts – Betws Primary School Project Since October 2009 Lynette and Tim have been running a forest arts group at Betws Primary School, working with both year 3 pupils and the nurture class. The aim of Forest Arts is to encourage self esteem, develop skills and build confidence through working in the outdoors...
