We were excited to launch the latest Valley and Vale film ‘Love is …’ at Bryntirion Comprehensive School on Thursday 26th May. This film explores the issues of power, control and abuse in young people’s relationships. The film follows the relationship of two young people and shows how controlling and abusive behaviour can emerge and become part of young lives.
The launch of the film was part of an evening in which the school were also celebrating the launch of their new ‘[email protected] Room’ – a resource for students in the school to come and speak to peers who have been trained in basic counseling skills. As most of the young people were coming to the end of their exams they requested that the event should be black tie, so we all donned our glad rags and guests were invited to stay for refreshments and canapés.
After the opening of the “[email protected] Room” all the guest were invited into the Drama Studio for the debut screening of the film ‘Love is…’ Everyone gave fantastic feedback about the film including Bridgend Women’s Aid who are hoping to use the film in their work in local schools with young people. The next step is to put together a teaching resource to accompany the DVD to make it an even more accessible resource for PSE teachers to use.
This film was made by Valley and Vale Community Arts and students at Bryntirion Comprehensive School and was supported by Bridgend Women’s Aid, Cymorth, The Arts Council of Wales and the Bridgend Community Cohesion Fund.
