A new Valley and Vale Community Arts photography exhibition launch takes place at The Pierhead, National Assembly building, Cardiff Bay, on 1st September at 12.30pm, and will be exhibited there for 5 weeks. Janice Gregory AM will be opening the exhibition and we are expecting other Assembly Ministers to attend the opening on this day.
This exhibition is unique because we linked a local rural project with an area of Ethiopia. Each participant was given 12 words to interpret through images. It is striking to see the contrast but mostly the similarities between two very different cultures.
Local people who were part of the ‘Top of the Mountain’ project were given an opportunity to attend weekly photography classes over the last year and were supported through this process. Our photography worker spent 3 weeks in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, at the beginning of the project and facilitated the same workshops for people there.
“We are completely delighted by the sheer beauty and skill shown by those who have taken part in this project. I feel happy that those taking part have had an opportunity to have their work displayed in such a high profile venue” (Top of the Mountain, Project Coordinator)
Please get in touch if you would like to find out more, or just come along to see the photographs at The Pierhead in Cardiff. This exhibition will also be touring across Wales and beyond in the future.
