On Tuesday November 25th at 6pm at The Sardis Media Centre, Betws, there will be a screening of the film, an exhibition of the booklet and readings from the children’s poetry, which were all made in the Earth, Fire, Water, Air project this summer.
In the grey days of winter it’s good to look back at warmer and (slightly) sunnier times, so we thought we’d show you a few pictures from this year’s children’s project Earth, Fire, Water, Air. This Summer Arts and Environment project provided creative education for Children and Young People in Betws and the Garw Valley, using Community Arts to promote respect and understanding about the natural environment and awareness about the risks and impact of arson upon the environment and ecosystem.
We explored the four elements – Earth, Fire, Water, Air – and used these as themes for creative learning activities. We went on nature walks to discover the natural beauty of the area and worked with the group to create a short drama, film and booklet.
We believe that by exploring and understanding nature in a fun, creative and relaxed way we enabled the young participants to develop an empathy with their surroundings, which will reduce the likelihood of arson attacks in our local area in the future.
This project was funded by the Welsh Assembly Government’s Arson Small Grants Programme 2007-2009. Contact Melissa on (01656) 729246 for more information about the project or the launch.
