Top of the Mountain is a project based around the people living in the village of Betws in the Garw Valley. We are exploring notions of identity through a range of creative projects and activities. After consulting local people about what they would like to get involved in, we have started a Community Choir, offering people in the village the chance to come together as a community, to learn new skills and share a creative and positive experience. There is a steady flow of people attending the sessions and people are continuously surprised by their singing ability, nurtured by our Community Music Tutor, Laura Bradshaw.
As part of this new Community Arts project our Community Arts facilitators Alison McGann and Tim Smith are running a series of art and poetry workshops at the School in Betws.
The football club in Betws has celebrated its 50th Anniversary this year and Tracy Pallant (Film Development Worker) is currently working with 7 local men to create digital stories about their memories and experiences of being part of the football club and life in Betws.
The Top of the Mountain project will continue to develop over the next 2 years, gradually introducing other art forms and culminating in a large-scale celebration which represents the community of Betws.
