Youth Mental Health First Aid Course

Girl with her head in her hands

As part of our training programme for staff teams, groups and organisations we are now able to offer 2 day Youth Mental Health First Aid course. This course is supported by the Welsh Government and is a national initiative alongside the Adult Mental Health First Aid and the Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) programmes.

Initial formal evaluations (Kelly et al 2011) of Youth Mental Health First Aid training have highlighted the following:

  • Knowledge of young people’s mental health problems increased
  • Attitudes towards those experiencing mental health distress changed for the better
  • There was also an increased likelihood of people helping a young person in distress.

This new course is available for your staff or group either as a 2 day block or as 4 x 3 hour sessions. We can offer up to 14 places per course and provide a local venue or deliver on site. Our instructor for the course is Rhys Hughes (R.S.W, R.M.N), who has a wealth of experience in both mental health training and in youth counselling.

If you would like to discuss this further Rhys can be contacted on 07815288516, or via [email protected]

You can download a copy of the Youth Mental Health First Aid leaflet which will tell you more about the courses.
