Zoom Young People’s Film Awards – Valley and Vale Win!

Zoom Award winners

On Friday 15th March, our Film Workers took our young film makers Demi, Cobi and Ben from Betws Primary School to Porth in Rhondda Cynon Taff for the Zoom Young People’s Wales/International Film Awards. Their film ‘Spirit of the Wood’ had been nominated for an award in the 8 to 13 year old Best Film category.

The atmosphere was buzzing and we waited in anticipation while clips from each of the films were shown to an excited audience. To everyone’s delight Spirit of The Wood won the award!

Spirit of The Wood was made with the support of First Light – a young people’s film initiative, where professional filmmakers and actors from Valley and Vale worked with children from Betws Primary School over an 8 month period to help them make their own film. The children wrote comments on their experience:

“We all thoroughly enjoyed the film awards night and if it was not for Valley and Vale and Miss Crouch we would not have had the opportunity to receive our glass trophy. We really liked the red carpet and we felt like super stars walking along it! We’re really happy we won and hope we get another chance to do it next year when we will be in year 6!”

” We want to thank all Valley and Vale staff members for their hard work and commitment. Thanks again!”
