Person-Centred Creativity in Mental Health Settings

PCC Training Course

Valley and Vale Community Arts has been working with both Statutory and Voluntary organisations in Mental Health for many years and it has always been a Sector where we believe creativity can offer so much, bringing new approaches and added value to both the work of staff and the care of Service Users.

Over the last few years we have developed a training programme specifically for people working in the Mental Health Sector in Person-Centred Creativity. This 4 day course has been delivered to a range of organisations to date and we are currently delivering to Bro Morgannwg NHS Trust and Rhondda Cynon Taf County Council.

This course is innovative because it combines Person-Centred Communication, Counselling and Psychology skills with Creativity. It is intended that use of this approach with Service Users develops creative expression and promotes self awareness, increased self esteem, and also addresses and explores attitudes to Mental Health work for staff in the Sector.

This course has been accredited by the Open College Network. We have received excellent feedback from all the organisations and groups we have worked with. The course is challenging, fun, reflective, motivational and inspiring. We believe that this training offers a unique approach in that we are not offering Art Therapy (which focusses on individual pathologies) but instead offer a more general intervention structure using Creativity and Person-Centred Communication, Counselling and Psychology skills, and focussing on the mental and emotional well-being of individuals.

We offer OCN-Accredited training courses in Person-Centred Creativity, facilitate ‘Training the Trainers’ courses, Introductory Days for groups, Team Building for teams through Creativity, and can also create a training course to suit your specific needs.

“Just a quick note to say how much I enjoyed working with you and the others on the Flying Start training. It was really good to look at what I do from the perspective of equipping people to individualise their own work with people. It put it into a whole new perspective…”
